About Keep RAP Running!

RAP's amazing team of runners SWEPT the Brooklyn Generosity 5K on May 19th, taking home three age-group awards! They are still fundraising through June 2nd to KEEP RAP RUNNING for NYC's most underestimated youth - and you can join them! Give now, give generously, and invest in the leaders of today.

2019 has been an incredible year for youth leadership, here at RAP and across the globe, with #MeToo and #strikeforclimate joining #marchforourlives and #blacklivesmatter as authentically youth-led, adult-supported movements. While youth have been showing us the way forward, we adults owe it to them to hold them up in loving support, especially in this moment of national crisis.

RAP youth need your help today, or they will not be able to continue their work for a better tomorrow.

New York’s most vulnerable young people -- those who are Black, Latinx, Muslim, indigenous, immigrant, gay, trans or gender nonconforming, in foster care, incarcerated, poor or homeless -- feel the sting of national events even more harshly than adults, and have been profoundly affected by policy decisions since 2016. In this context, RAP's work is more important than ever.

Powerful Youth, Resilient Communities

RAP is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2008 to train youth leaders in the fight against poverty. Since then, our mission has grown to improve the quality of life for low-income youth of color across all issue areas they face: identity, relationships, health, education and safety.

We achieve our mission by developing and continually improving strengths-based, culturally responsive trainings in self-advocacy, peer community-based activism and coalition-based systems change. Our key offerings are:

  • YouthLEAP, our flagship program providing a 10-week leadership and advocacy training to NYC's most underestimated youth, culminating in community service projects that have immediate and powerful impact;
  • YouthVoiceNYC, a youth-led, year-round initiative whose current organizing platform provides eight Youth Policy Fellows with space to share, discover and implement meaningful campaigns for social change; and
  • YouthALIGN, our professional development program for adult supporters that run programs for youth and want to be responsive to youth needs but need guidance in how to do it.

Sign up for our newsletter to keep abreast of all the amazing things our youth leaders are doing!
